Carmel unveils plans for Bear Creek Park and new indoor playground

During a recent Carmel Town Hall meeting, city officials provided an exciting update on the development of local parks, particularly focusing on Bear Creek Park and a new indoor playground at the Monon Community Center. Councilor Jeff Worrell highlighted the significance of these projects, emphasizing their potential to enhance community engagement and recreational opportunities.

Bear Creek Park, located at the intersection of 146th Street and Shelbourne Road, is set to become a 27-acre green space that will incorporate existing natural features, including trees and topography, to create a unique park experience. Worrell noted that the park's design will be informed by public input gathered from various community meetings, including discussions with local school children. The first phase of development will utilize $8 million in funding from a recently passed bond, focusing on trails and play areas for children. Plans also include a signature amenity, reminiscent of the historic fire tower at Brown County State Park, which will offer elevated views of the park's landscape.

In addition to Bear Creek Park, Worrell announced the upcoming opening of a new indoor playground at the Monon Community Center, expected to launch in May. This facility aims to provide a creative and engaging environment for children, especially during inclement weather. The playground will feature a large climbing structure designed with artistic elements and a strong STEM focus, allowing children to explore concepts like air flow through interactive play.
