Representative Beckles honors Norcross nonprofits and community leaders in Georgia assembly

The Georgia State Legislature convened on March 28, 2025, for Session Day 37, where members engaged in a series of recognitions and resolutions aimed at honoring local organizations and individuals contributing to community welfare.

The session began with expressions of gratitude from members, acknowledging the efforts of representatives and the importance of their roles in the community. Following this, Representative Beckles took the floor to present six resolutions recognizing various nonprofits in Norcross. Among those honored were the Good Samaritan Health Centers of Gwinnett, which has provided essential health services, and the National Villalar Lago Foundation, known for its support of individuals with Villal conditions.

Additionally, Beyond the Ribbon, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting cancer patients and their families, was recognized for its ongoing efforts since February. Representative Beckles also acknowledged Joy Monroe from the Single Parent Alliance, inviting her and other representatives to the anteroom for photographs.

Representative Gabe Okoye followed with a morning order, recognizing Dr. Stanley Okoro, an internationally renowned plastic surgeon and veteran. Dr. Okoro, who has made significant contributions to the medical field and authored a book titled "Brazilian Butler," was applauded for his service and achievements.

Next, Representative Virginia highlighted the Georgia Haitian American Chamber of Commerce, which focuses on the economic and cultural advancement of the Haitian American community in Georgia. The chamber is known for its initiatives, including the upcoming Haitian Flag Day event scheduled for May 18, 2025, in Forest Park.

Finally, Representative Bazemore, alongside fellow representatives, honored the South Metro men’s health initiative, which aims to empower community members, particularly focusing on black men, to take control of their health through education and resources.

The meeting concluded with a call for community engagement and health awareness, emphasizing the importance of preventive care. Overall, the session showcased the legislature's commitment to recognizing and supporting local organizations that contribute positively to the community.
