Hoffman Estates is taking significant steps to support its aging population by becoming a dementia-friendly community. During a recent meeting, community health nurse Gina McCauley highlighted the growing need for resources to assist seniors and their families dealing with dementia and Alzheimer's. The Health and Human Services department is spearheading this initiative, utilizing the Dementia Friendly America toolkit to create a sustainable program aimed at educating and supporting those affected by memory loss.
As part of this effort, the village has launched the WITS workout, a brain health program designed to enhance cognitive function and foster social connections among older adults. These sessions are held monthly at Village Hall. Additionally, two special events are scheduled for April: a seminar on aging brains and an older adults resource fair, which will connect seniors and caregivers with local services, including healthcare and legal advice.
