In a recent meeting of the Uvalde County Commissioners Court, the community's commitment to environmental stewardship shone brightly as officials reported impressive results from river cleanup efforts. Over the course of 22 weeks, contractors successfully removed more than 20,000 pounds of trash from local rivers, a significant achievement that underscores the ongoing dedication to maintaining the natural beauty of the area.

The cleanup initiative included the Nueces River, which saw 5,000 pounds of debris collected, while the Frio River contributed over 2,000 pounds. The Savinel River, noted for its cleanliness, had only 22 pounds of trash removed. This year’s efforts culminated in the Free Over River Trash Bash held on September 14, where over 200 volunteers gathered to collect more than 1,300 pounds of trash, a remarkable increase from the previous year’s 80 volunteers.

Digital marketing workshops have been introduced, offering free training on various topics such as social media and email marketing. These workshops aim to empower local entrepreneurs and enhance their online presence.

The Texas Hotel Lodging Association also participated in the meeting, providing valuable insights into the local hotel tax and available grants for businesses. This collaboration reflects the county's commitment to fostering economic growth and supporting its residents.

To further enhance communication, a new texting platform has been launched, allowing residents to receive timely updates, such as alerts about weather conditions and potential flooding. This initiative aims to keep the community informed and engaged, especially as the busy tourist season approaches.
