A new commemorative license plate is set to hit the market in Idaho, celebrating the commissioning of the USS Idaho, the fifth ship in the United States Naval Fleet. During a recent House Transportation & Defense committee meeting, Representative Shepherd, stepping in for absent Representative Hill, passionately advocated for Senate Bill 1153, which proposes a five-year run for this special plate.
"This amendment to the Idaho code establishes a plate that is way more important than all the others," Shepherd stated, emphasizing the significance of honoring the naval vessel. The initiative aims not only to celebrate the USS Idaho but also to generate funds for critical infrastructure improvements, specifically addressing the slide on Highway 95.
Shepherd's enthusiasm for the bill was clear as he urged committee members to support the sale of these plates, highlighting their potential to raise necessary funds for road repairs. The committee's decision on this bill could pave the way for both a tribute to the state's naval history and a solution to pressing transportation issues.
