Kathy Parker leads South Dayton Emergency Response Team in holiday assistance efforts

The West Carrollton City Council meeting held on March 11, 2025, featured a significant presentation by Kathy Parker, the founder of the South Dayton Emergency Response Team (SDERT). The meeting began with Parker being invited to the podium to discuss the impactful work of her nonprofit organization, which has been operational for approximately six years.

Parker outlined the mission of SDERT, which focuses on assisting individuals and families facing crises, such as homelessness or the aftermath of disasters like fires. She provided specific examples of the organization's efforts during the Christmas season of 2024, where SDERT successfully collected and distributed gifts, household items, and food to over 150 families, benefiting a total of 447 children. This initiative also included finding temporary housing for families in need, ensuring they had a safe place to stay during the cold months.

In addition to holiday support, Parker emphasized the organization's ongoing commitment to feeding the homeless. SDERT regularly collects food from local restaurants and private donors, distributing it to those in need. Notably, in November, the organization provided essential supplies, including 420 packages of hand and foot warmers, tents, blankets, hats, gloves, scarves, coats, sleeping bags, and emergency food and toiletries.

Parker also mentioned a recent collaboration with another nonprofit group, Sub 0 Ministry, indicating a growing network of support for the community's vulnerable populations.
