Cape Cod is set to enhance its transportation network as the Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) prepares to finalize the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) by the end of July. During a virtual public meeting held on July 11, 2023, officials provided an overview of the draft document currently open for public comment, emphasizing the unique geographical challenges of the region.
The meeting highlighted the importance of a well-connected transportation system, showcasing various modes of transport including bus routes, marine connections, and pedestrian infrastructure. The MPO aims to ensure seamless travel across Cape Cod, particularly between major roadways like Route 6 and Route 28, and vital connections to ferries and airports.
The development of the RTP has been a year-long process, featuring extensive public outreach that included listening sessions, online surveys, and community presentations. Nearly 400 responses were collected from the online survey, reflecting strong community engagement. The MPO has also conducted 15 public meetings and formed a subcommittee to provide technical oversight during the plan's development.
As the public comment period approaches its close, officials are eager to incorporate feedback from residents and businesses. The MPO plans to review these comments before potentially endorsing the RTP at their meeting on July 24. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that the transportation needs of all Cape Codders are met, paving the way for improved connectivity and accessibility in the region.
