City Council explores new traffic regulations amid local complaints in Shreveport

Concerns over public safety took center stage at the Shreveport Public Safety Committee meeting on March 26, 2025, as council members voiced urgent issues affecting local neighborhoods. Chief of Police was called upon to address rising complaints about reckless driving and noise disturbances, particularly along 3132 between I-49 and Floyd Lucas Road. Councilman Butcher highlighted the alarming frequency of motorcycle racing in the area, urging increased police patrols to mitigate the problem.

In addition to racing, Butcher raised concerns about loud Jake brakes from 18-wheelers disturbing residents in the Amberwood and Spring Lake neighborhoods. Councilman Green also chimed in, requesting police attention to cruising and speeding issues at Kennedy and Broadway on Sunday evenings, particularly after 3:30 PM. The committee discussed the need for stricter enforcement of noise ordinances, with Councilman Dallenberg advocating for a review of state vehicle codes regarding noise levels, suggesting a 50-foot rule for measuring sound disturbances.
