The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) provided an update during the recent Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting, highlighting key transportation initiatives for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and summer season.
As Memorial Day approaches, the CCRTA is set to launch its seasonal train service on Friday, May 24. This year, the service will feature a concession train car, a cap class car, and a bike car, enhancing the multimodal travel experience for visitors heading to Cape Cod. The bike car, in particular, aims to accommodate cyclists, promoting eco-friendly transportation options.
A notable highlight of the weekend will be the "Troops in the Spotlight" event on Sunday, May 26, where veterans will receive complimentary round-trip transportation from Boston to Cape Cod. This initiative not only honors veterans but also encourages community participation in the event, which is currently planned to take place at the former Kmart Plaza.
In addition to the special events, the CCRTA announced fare changes for the summer months. Starting in June, regular round-trip fares will be set at $10, while first-class fares will be priced at $40 round trip or $25 one way. As the summer progresses, from July through Labor Day, first-class fares will increase to $60 round trip and $37 one way, offering complimentary drinks to enhance the travel experience.
Sundays will also feature a "Super Summer Sunday Savings" promotion, allowing travelers to enjoy round-trip fares for $20, excluding the month of June when the fare remains at $10.
These updates reflect the CCRTA's commitment to improving transportation options and accessibility for both residents and visitors, fostering a vibrant summer tourism season on Cape Cod. As the CCRTA prepares for the busy months ahead, these initiatives are expected to enhance the overall travel experience while supporting local events and honoring those who have served in the military.
