The Utah Outdoor Adventure Commission held a meeting on March 20, 2022, where key initiatives aimed at enhancing outdoor recreation were discussed. A significant highlight was the announcement of a new specialist position dedicated to outdoor recreation education, particularly focusing on boating and off-highway vehicles (OHV). This position is set to be funded by $50,000 from both the OHV restricted account and the boating restricted account, with recruitment expected to begin in approximately six weeks.
Additionally, the Commission addressed the expansion of its trail crew program, which has seen success in the previous season. A funding request totaling $1.3 million was approved, comprising $400,000 from the OHV restricted account and $900,000 from the outdoor venture infrastructure restricted account. This funding will allow for the establishment of three new trail crews, strategically placed in northern, southern, eastern, and western regions of Utah. The trail team is currently developing a plan to fill these positions and identify suitable locations for the crews.
The meeting underscored the Commission's commitment to improving outdoor recreational opportunities in Utah, with a focus on education and infrastructure development. As these initiatives progress, they are expected to enhance the state's outdoor experience for residents and visitors alike.
