Frederick County opens new crisis center with expanded 24/7 services and renovations

A significant milestone was reached at the recent Criminal Justice Coordinating Council meeting in Baltimore County, where officials highlighted the successful expansion of a local crisis intervention center. The center, now operating 24/7 in a newly renovated building, has already served over 8,700 unique individuals since its opening, totaling more than 10,000 visits.

The center's ability to provide extended care stays marks a crucial development in supporting individuals in crisis. This allows them to receive additional time and assistance while being connected to longer-term rehabilitation programs. Notably, the center has seen a surprising trend: over half of its clients have private insurance, contrary to expectations of serving more uninsured individuals or those reliant on medical assistance.

The renovations, undertaken by the county, transformed an older building into a welcoming space designed for crisis management. The updates included knocking down walls to create a more open and inviting environment, featuring a spacious reception area and comfortable meeting rooms.

This initiative reflects a proactive approach to mental health and crisis intervention in Baltimore County, aiming to provide essential support to those in need while fostering a community-focused atmosphere.
