Little Falls Council moves to vacate drainage easement for state park expansion

The City Council of Little Falls is moving forward with a significant change to a drainage easement in the southwest part of the city, as discussions centered around the Rodent property and its potential acquisition by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to expand the state park. The DNR is seeking to vacate the existing drainage easement, which currently places maintenance responsibilities on the property owner. In a collaborative effort, city officials, the property owner, and the DNR are drafting a new easement that would transfer maintenance responsibilities to the city.

During the special work session on December 16, 2024, city officials emphasized the urgency of the matter, noting that a meeting to vacate the current easement is scheduled for the following Monday. Council members were asked for a consensus to proceed with the drafting of the new easement, which will be presented for ratification at a later date. The council expressed support for the initiative, with members confirming their agreement to move forward.

In addition to the drainage easement discussion, council members briefly touched on the expiration of the city's garbage hauler agreement, which lapsed in October. There was a consensus to reach out to local haulers for potential renewal, with a preference for keeping the service local.
