Sarasota County receives Gold Envision Award for wastewater treatment excellence

Sarasota County has made a significant stride in environmental sustainability, as the Board of County Commissioners celebrated the Gold Envision Award for the county's wastewater treatment facility. This prestigious recognition, awarded by the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure, marks a historic achievement as Sarasota becomes the first facility in Florida to receive this honor.

Brooke Bailey, the Public Utilities Director, presented the award during the meeting, highlighting the rigorous criteria that had to be met, including improving community quality of life, stakeholder engagement, and minimizing environmental impacts. "This award reflects our commitment to water quality and environmental stewardship," Bailey stated, thanking both current and past board members for their dedication over the past three years.

Commissioners expressed their pride in the achievement, emphasizing the importance of clean water for the coastal community. One commissioner noted, "The investment we are making will fundamentally change our water quality throughout our community, and that is a positive thing for everybody."
