Sandpoint plans downtown parking lot repavement with tree preservation and future amenities

The City of Sandpoint is set to enhance its downtown area with a significant repavement project for the downtown parking lot, which is currently out to bid. The project aims to improve accessibility and aesthetics while preserving local greenery. Six trees from a cedar grove on the south side of the lot will be saved, and two new trees will be planted as part of the initiative.

The repavement will include new base material and asphalt, along with curb installation around the perimeter of the lot. Additional features will enhance the parking experience, such as new sidewalks along Church Street, updated striping, and improved lighting. Future plans include the installation of kiosks that will display local events, as well as wayfinding art features to help visitors navigate downtown.

Security enhancements are also on the horizon, with provisions for camera installations to monitor the parking lot and improve safety. The design allows for future parking management systems, potentially incorporating license plate readers to streamline access.

The public bid opening for the project is scheduled for April 3, 2025, marking a crucial step towards revitalizing the downtown area and addressing existing drainage issues along Main Street. This project reflects the city’s commitment to improving community infrastructure while maintaining its natural beauty.
