The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting on April 1, 2025, highlighted significant progress in expanding broadband access throughout the region. The ongoing project, which aims to enhance internet connectivity, has already seen the installation of 697 homes with duct and fiber infrastructure, with 317 homes now utilizing broadband services.
As the county moves into the next phase of the project, known as Contract 2, officials reported that approximately 60 miles of duct have been laid, with the potential to connect 1,500 customers. Currently, 1,040 customers have signed up for the service, and 367 of those installations are complete. The total number of homes targeted for this initiative is 2,400, with 1,700 customers already signed up for service drops.

A small number of residents, particularly among the elderly, have opted out of the service, citing a lack of perceived need. Additionally, delays have occurred due to issues with existing infrastructure, particularly with CenturyLink Lumen, which has affected service for some customers.
The county is actively working to address these challenges and is on track to complete the project by July. Community outreach efforts, including radio spots and advertisements, are underway to ensure residents are aware of the available services before potential costs are incurred for future connections.
Commissioners expressed gratitude for the progress made, emphasizing the importance of reliable internet access for the community. The project not only aims to improve connectivity but also to enhance the overall quality of life for residents in Lewis County. As the initiative continues, officials remain optimistic about the positive impact it will have on the local community.
