The DuPage County Environmental Committee convened on April 1, 2025, to discuss a variety of upcoming environmental initiatives and events. The meeting highlighted a busy month ahead, with multiple recycling events scheduled and community activities planned in celebration of Earth Day.
Kaye, a committee member, reported that there will be eight recycling extravaganzas throughout April. Notably, a bike ceremony is set to take place at Forest Glen School in Glen Ellyn on Earth Day, April 22. Additionally, the Sustainable Design Challenge is scheduled for April 15, coinciding with tax day, which Kaye noted as an easy date to remember. Currently, 26 teams have registered for the challenge, although a scheduling conflict arose this year due to the SAT test being held on the same day, preventing York High School, a previous award winner, from participating.

The meeting also addressed Arbor Day, which celebrates its 153rd anniversary this year. A cleanup event for the Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail is planned for April 26, encouraging community involvement in environmental stewardship.
Following Kaye's remarks, the committee chair announced that they would lead a crew for the Prairie Path cleanup, inviting others to join in the effort. The meeting proceeded with the approval of minutes from the previous meeting held on March 4, 2025, which was unanimously accepted without any corrections.
In summary, the DuPage County Environmental Committee is gearing up for a month filled with activities aimed at promoting sustainability and community engagement, with several events designed to encourage local participation in environmental care.
