Springville declares April 25 2025 as Arbor Day to honor community's trees

Springville City Council has officially proclaimed April 25, 2025, as Arbor Day, encouraging residents to celebrate and support tree planting and care in the community. This proclamation, presented during the council meeting, highlights the historical significance of Arbor Day, which began in 1872 when Sterling Morton proposed a day dedicated to planting trees.

Mayor Packard emphasized the numerous benefits of trees, including reducing soil erosion, lowering energy costs, improving air quality, and enhancing property values. He urged citizens to engage in activities that promote the well-being of both current and future generations through tree care.

Springville has proudly maintained its status as a Tree City for 46 years, currently overseeing 36,235 trees across public spaces, including parks and streets. This year alone, the city has planted 156 new trees, contributing to its ongoing commitment to urban forestry.

The proclamation serves as a reminder of the importance of trees in fostering a vibrant and healthy community. As Arbor Day approaches, residents are encouraged to participate in local initiatives aimed at planting and caring for trees, reinforcing the city’s dedication to environmental stewardship.
