Vendor proposes kayak and paddleboard rental system for local river access

The City of Temple Terrace is moving forward with an exciting plan to enhance Riverside Park by introducing a kayak and canoe rental service. During a recent government meeting, Mr. Langfield outlined the vision for this initiative, which aims to provide residents and visitors with easy access to water activities.

The proposed rental service will feature a vendor that specializes in outdoor equipment, including kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and bikes. The vendor will install a self-contained rental kiosk at the park, which will require a concrete pad for the equipment. This kiosk will operate entirely through a mobile app, allowing users to unlock lockers containing kayaks, paddles, and life jackets. The rental process is designed to be user-friendly, with charges based on the duration of use.

The city will invest approximately $30,000 upfront for the kayak racks, which will remain property of the city after a five-year agreement with the vendor. In return, the vendor will manage maintenance and insurance, ensuring that the equipment is well cared for and safe for public use. The revenue model includes a 70-30 split, with the vendor receiving 70% of rental fees and the city retaining 30%.

This initiative not only aims to promote outdoor recreation but also to foster community engagement with nature. Mr. Langfield suggested potential sponsorship opportunities with outdoor companies, such as REI, to further enhance the program and encourage local residents to explore the outdoors.

As the city moves forward with this plan, it reflects a commitment to improving recreational facilities and providing residents with more opportunities for outdoor activities.
