Commission approves Halloween dog costume contest at Panorama Dog Park

The Parks and Community Events Commission meeting on April 1, 2025, highlighted exciting plans for upcoming dog costume contests in Cathedral City, including a Halloween event at Panorama Dog Park and a holiday-themed contest at Esperanza Dog Park.

The commission unanimously approved the Halloween dog costume event scheduled for Saturday, October 25, which will feature categories for small and large dogs, as well as a best combination costume prize. Last year’s event attracted 244 attendees and 30 competing dogs, and organizers are optimistic about a similar turnout this year. A budget of $100 was requested for miscellaneous expenses, although no funds were spent during the previous event.

In addition to the Halloween festivities, the commission introduced the "Feliz Navi Dog" contest, set for December 6, 2025, at Esperanza Dog Park. This event aims to celebrate the local Latino community with a festive atmosphere. Organizers are seeking $300 for miscellaneous costs, including a banner for the event.

Both events mark a significant return to community engagement following maintenance closures at the parks, with the Halloween event also serving as the grand reopening of Panorama Dog Park. The commission is eager to ensure smooth operations, especially regarding staffing, as they prepare for these popular gatherings.

The commission's plans will be presented to the city council during the summer meetings, following the approval of the new budget.
