Palo Alto plans new energy connections to Moffett and NASA Ames this year

Palo Alto is making strides in enhancing its energy infrastructure, with plans to connect to a new transmission corridor that promises increased reliability and diversity in energy supply. During the Utilities Advisory Commission meeting on April 2, 2025, officials announced that studies are progressing well, with a proposal set to be submitted to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) within the next month.

The new 115 kV transmission corridor will link Palo Alto to key energy hubs, including Moffett Field and NASA Ames, as well as the Metcalf Energy Center in Southern San Jose. This strategic connectivity will also extend to Fremont and the Newark substation, significantly bolstering the city's energy supply options.
