The Camden County Board of Commissioners held a regular meeting on April 1, 2025, where they discussed two significant agenda items: the purchase of new fuel tanks for the fire rescue headquarters and the approval of enhancements to Browntown Wilderness Park.
The first item addressed the urgent need to replace aging fire guard fuel tanks at the fire rescue headquarters. The existing tanks are over 30 years old, and one of the diesel tanks recently failed, resulting in an oil leak. Following a review of three quotes, Guardian Field Technologies provided the lowest bid of $58,665.42, along with the shortest lead time. The board approved the purchase, which will also include a maintenance fee for connecting lines and changing filters. Hopkins Gowen will receive a 5% fee for their assistance in the project.

The board approved a grant for this project in January and received a single proposal from CWA Development, which was accepted at a cost of $221,400. CWA will replace the decking with marine-grade wood, expected to last 18 to 20 years, while Camden County will cover additional costs for new signage, trash cans, benches, and trail millings using the remaining grant funds of $64,600.
During discussions, commissioners raised questions about the longevity of the chosen materials, suggesting the potential benefits of synthetic alternatives. However, it was noted that the cost of such materials would be significantly higher, making them unfeasible within the current budget constraints.
The meeting concluded with both projects receiving unanimous approval, marking a step forward in enhancing public safety and recreational facilities in Camden County.
