The North Penn School District's Education, Curriculum & Instruction Committee convened on April 1, 2025, to discuss several key initiatives, including summer programs and the introduction of the Pennsylvania Seal of Biliteracy. The meeting began with a unanimous vote to approve the summer programs, which aim to enhance student learning and readiness.
Nina Fencenmaker presented three summer programs designed for elementary students. The first, the SPARK program, focuses on remedial reading skills and foundational math for invited students. This program will be held at Knapp Elementary School and includes transportation for participants. The second initiative, the Elementary Virtual Enrichment Program, is open to all North Penn students in grades K-6 and will run throughout July. This program allows students to engage in asynchronous learning, with support available from North Penn Family Tech. The third program, the Kindergarten Readiness Camp, aims to prepare incoming kindergarteners for their first school experience, focusing on essential pre-kindergarten skills.

The meeting also covered the Summer School Remediation Program for middle and high school students. This program allows students who have earned a grade between 50% and 64% in a course to engage in remediation during the summer, providing them with an opportunity to earn credit and stay aligned with their academic progress.
In addition to summer programs, the committee introduced the Pennsylvania Seal of Biliteracy, an award recognizing students who achieve proficiency in English and an additional language by graduation. The initiative aims to support bilingual and multilingual learners, offering various pathways for students to qualify for the seal. The committee emphasized the importance of this recognition in enhancing students' marketability in the workforce.
The meeting concluded with a call for questions and comments, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the committee members in developing these programs. The committee's next steps include finalizing details for the summer programs and moving forward with the implementation of the Seal of Biliteracy.
