ECA Solar proposes 5MW community project in New Lenox amid infrastructure challenges

A proposed solar project in New Lenox is generating excitement as it moves forward, with developers highlighting its unique location and potential benefits for the community. During the Will County Land Use & Development Committee meeting on March 6, 2025, representatives from ECA Solar presented plans for a nearly 5-megawatt community solar initiative, strategically situated between existing infrastructure, including a railroad and water utility facilities.

Colin Walker, a representative from ECA Solar, emphasized that the irregularly shaped parcel is not suitable for residential development due to its utility easements, making it an ideal candidate for solar energy. The village of New Lenox has expressed no objections to the project, which is expected to generate over $875,000 in tax revenue over the next 35 years and provide power to approximately 990 ComEd customers.

The developers have engaged with the community, holding multiple outreach meetings to address concerns and gather feedback. They reported no issues with glare or noise from the solar panels, ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding area.
