Senate honors Avon High School dance team for 2025 state championship victory

In a celebratory session on April 3, 2025, the Indiana State Senate recognized the Avon High School Dance Team for their remarkable achievement in winning the Indiana High School Dance Team Association Division 3A State Championship. The resolution, presented by Senator Clark, highlighted the team's impressive performance and dedication throughout the season.

The Avon Black and Gold Dance Team clinched the state title on March 2, 2025, at the Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis, marking a significant milestone in the school's history. This victory was particularly notable as it ended a three-decade reign of Lake Central's dance team in the hip hop category. The Avon team scored a subtotal of 436.5 points, narrowly surpassing Lake Central by just 0.88 points.

Senator Clark emphasized the team's journey, which began in December, as they competed against various schools across the state in multiple dance categories, including hip hop, jazz, and palm. Their success at regionals further propelled them to the state championship, where they showcased their talents against ten other high schools.

In addition to their state championship win, the Avon dance team also excelled in other competitions. The junior varsity team secured first place in palm and hip hop at regionals, while the varsity team achieved fourth place in jazz. Following their state championship, the team continued to shine at the IHS DTA solo and ensemble state finals, where they won multiple titles, including their fifth consecutive state championship in large ensemble.

The resolution passed unanimously, with the Senate expressing pride in the team's accomplishments and their representation of Indiana's spirit in the arts.
