Mayor celebrates Sunrise Acres Jaguars' undefeated flag football championship victory

The Las Vegas City Council meeting on April 3, 2025, celebrated the achievements of the Sunrise Acres Elementary School flag football team, who finished their season undefeated. The council recognized the team for their hard work and dedication, culminating in their victory at the Las Vegas Raiders-sponsored 2024 Silver and Black Citywide Championship.

During the meeting, a council member expressed pride in the young athletes, emphasizing the importance of celebrating milestones and encouraging youth to pursue their passions. The council highlighted the role of sports in teaching valuable life skills, such as teamwork, dedication, and resilience. The team, known as the Jaguars, competed against schools from the East Side School League, which included 12 schools, seven of which were public schools within Ward 3.

Coaches Austin Shannon, Don Adaszek, and Lisa Accord were acknowledged for their mentorship, which was deemed crucial to the team's success. The council member noted that the lessons learned on the field would benefit the players throughout their lives. The cheerleaders were also recognized for their support, reinforcing the spirit of teamwork.

Principal Nicole Baumgartner of Sunrise Acres expressed gratitude for the coaches and the community's support, highlighting the positive impact of the program on the students. Each player and cheerleader received a certificate of achievement signed by the mayor and council members, marking their successful season.
