During a recent meeting, a student activist presented a compelling case for the initiative, highlighting the urgent need for sun protection in the community.

The proposal, backed by Impact Melanoma's Skin Cancer Prevention program, aims to combat the rising rates of skin cancer, which is the most preventable form of cancer. The activist shared alarming statistics, noting that skin cancer claims two lives every hour, yet many people, especially children, remain unprotected from harmful UV rays. A survey conducted at local schools revealed that the primary reason individuals neglect to wear sunscreen is simply forgetting to apply it.

The proposed plan includes the installation of eight dispensers at strategic locations, such as parks and busy pathways, with an estimated cost of $1,600 for the dispensers and an annual refill cost of $600.
