Council approves $20K funding for camera upgrades at Jesse Smith Library

Burrillville Town Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing security at the Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library by approving a funding request for a much-needed upgrade to its camera system. During the regular meeting on January 22, 2025, council members discussed the library's outdated and malfunctioning analog cameras, which have been a concern for the librarian and the community.

The council approved a budget of $20,810 to be allocated from the major capital fund to facilitate the upgrade. This decision comes after a thorough evaluation by the librarian and the police department, who identified the need for a modern surveillance system that aligns with the technology used in other municipal buildings, including the town hall and police station.

The current camera system at the library has been failing, leading to security vulnerabilities, particularly in light of past vandalism incidents at the library's pavilion.
