Concerns over road safety and parking issues in Little Compton have prompted town officials to consider a significant change to traffic flow around The Common. During the recent Town Council meeting, discussions highlighted the challenges posed by narrow roads and newly installed curbing, which have restricted parking options and created congestion, especially during busy events like church services and community lunches.

Council members noted that the current layout often forces vehicles into a one-way situation, leading to confusion and potential safety hazards. In response, a proposal to convert the area into a one-way traffic system was introduced. This plan would allow for smoother traffic flow and improved parking availability.

Town officials, including the town administrator and fire chief, have already engaged with representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to explore this idea further. A walk-around of The Common was conducted with state engineers to assess the feasibility of the proposed changes. The plan suggests a one-way route that would direct traffic from Meeting House, through A1 Pizza, and around the triangle formed by the town hall and Pikes Peak.

While the Traffic Safety Commission has been approached regarding this proposal, the outcome of their review remains uncertain. Previous attempts to address similar traffic concerns were mentioned, indicating that this issue has been on the table for some time without resolution. Town officials are now awaiting feedback from the commission to determine the next steps in enhancing safety and accessibility in this busy area.
