Charlestown Town Council appoints Sean Henry as new town planner

The Charlestown Town Council meeting on February 24, 2025, highlighted a significant transition within the town's planning department as members bid farewell to retiring planner Miss Wyman and welcomed her successor, Sean Henry.

Vice Chair of the Planning Commission, Frances Kopek, praised Wyman for her invaluable contributions over the years, noting her collaborative spirit and extensive experience in developing comprehensive plans. "We will sorely miss her collegial spirit and assistance," Kopek stated, emphasizing Wyman's role in representing Charlestown's interests at the American Planning Association. The council unanimously approved a motion to wish Wyman a long and happy retirement, marking the end of an era for the planning team.

Following this farewell, the council turned its attention to the appointment of Sean Henry as the new town planner, effective March 3, 2025. Henry, who currently serves as the principal planner for the city of Warwick, brings a wealth of experience from previous roles in North Kingston and Hopkinton. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and a Master’s in Public Administration from Roger Williams University.

Henry expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the town, signaling a hopeful new chapter for Charlestown's planning efforts. The council's decision to appoint him marks a strategic move to ensure continuity and progress in managing the town's development and environmental health.
