Bilingual Foundation of the Arts debuts Salon Mexico at Mid Valley Y

Los Angeles City Council members gathered recently to celebrate the vibrant contributions of the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts, which is set to premiere its latest production, "Salon Mexico," starting this evening and running through November 4. The announcement was made during a council meeting where members highlighted the importance of the arts in the community.

Council member Reyes introduced the foundation, noting its nearly 30-year history and its mission to present Latino world drama to both English and Spanish-speaking audiences. The foundation, founded by Carmen Zapata, has become a cultural cornerstone, attracting an annual audience of approximately 280,000 people. Reyes emphasized that the foundation not only showcases Latino cultural diversity but also serves as a platform for young Latino writers to share their stories.

"Salon Mexico," set in 1936, tells the tale of a murder at a famous nightclub in Mexico City, drawing parallels to the social dynamics of the time. The production aims to illuminate a significant yet often overlooked slice of Mexican history, engaging audiences with its rich narrative and cultural significance.

The meeting also featured a performance by Alejandro Padilla, further underscoring the council's commitment to supporting local arts and culture.
