Paradise Valley Board recognizes student accomplishments and approves new superintendent contract

Paradise Valley Unified School District is set to enhance its educational offerings with the approval of a new superintendent, Dr. Todd Cummings, effective July 1, 2025. This decision was made during the Governing Board's regular meeting on April 3, 2025, where board members expressed their enthusiasm for the leadership change aimed at furthering the district's commitment to high-quality education.

The meeting also highlighted significant achievements within the district, particularly in the realm of science and technology. Dr. Lim, a board member, shared exciting news about Paradise Valley High School's participation in the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair. Notably, students from the school excelled in various categories, with one project in mathematics earning a spot at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This recognition underscores the district's focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education and its commitment to fostering innovative learning experiences.

In addition to academic achievements, the meeting celebrated several students and staff members for their outstanding contributions. Kiara Shaw from Whispering Wind Academy was recognized for her first-place win at the Arizona State Mandarin Speech Competition, while Pinnacle High School students received accolades for their performance at the Arizona State DECA competition. The district also honored Ruth Holly as the Education Support Professional of the Month for her exceptional work at Paradise Valley High School.

Superintendent Dr. Reynolds emphasized the importance of programs like the Digital Academy Advanced Placement Scholars Program (DAPS), which provides advanced students with opportunities to excel academically and prepare for their future. He encouraged community members to attend the upcoming FAFSA night, aimed at assisting seniors and their families with college financial aid applications.
