The projects, known as Mount Hill North and Mount Hill South, are being developed by Sundial Energy in partnership with CleanCapital Holdings LLC. Mount Hill North is proposed as a 7 megawatt DC facility, while Mount Hill South will be a smaller 3 megawatt DC facility.
During the meeting, representatives from Sundial Energy outlined their responsibilities, which include overseeing engineering and public hearings, while CleanCapital will provide financing and ultimately own and operate the projects. The township ultimately recommended denial of the projects, citing potential negative effects on scenic views. An appraiser present at the meeting testified that property values would not be adversely affected.
The applicants presented revised site plans and additional documentation, including a decommissioning report and a vegetation management plan, in response to the feedback. They also confirmed that notices of the public meeting and hearing were sent to property owners within a quarter-mile radius, as well as to residents of the nearby Northland Hills subdivision.
The board is expected to deliberate on the applications, weighing the community's concerns against the benefits of renewable energy development. The outcome of this meeting could significantly influence the future of solar energy projects in Lee County, highlighting the ongoing dialogue between development interests and community aesthetics.
