The Socorro Independent School District (SISD) Board of Trustees held a special meeting on April 3, 2025, to recognize outstanding student athletes and their achievements in various sports. The meeting began with a celebration of SISD wrestlers who qualified for and participated in the 2025 UIL 6A Wrestling State Meet. The athletes were commended for their dedication and representation of the district and the El Paso region. Notable mentions included Kayla Mata from Montwood High School, coached by Oscar Norris, and Dorian Jaramillo, Aiden Quinones, and D'Angelo Zuniga from Pebble Hills High School, coached by Carlos Paniagua.
The meeting continued with the recognition of four championship basketball teams from SISD. The first team honored was the America's High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team, which won the 5A District and 5A Bi-District Championships. The team finished district play undefeated with a record of 12-0 and an overall record of 28-4. Individual accolades included two players being named 5A Most Valuable Players and several earning first and second team All-District and All-Academic honors.

Subscribe for Free Next, the Pebble Hills High School Girls Basketball Team was recognized for winning the 6A District and 6A Bi-District Championships. They concluded their season with an overall record of 25-8, with team members receiving multiple titles, including District Most Valuable Player and various All-District honors. The head coach, Steven Lee, was also acknowledged as Coach of the Year.
The meeting then shifted to the recognition of the America's High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team, which achieved the 5A District Championship with an undefeated district record of 12-0 and an overall record of 21-11. The team members and their head coach, Mike Brooks, were celebrated for their accomplishments.
Lastly, another boys basketball team from SISD was recognized for winning the 6A Bi-District Championship, finishing the season with an impressive overall record of 24-9 and a district record of 8-4.
The meeting concluded with a sense of pride in the achievements of SISD student athletes, highlighting their hard work and dedication in representing their schools and the district.
