Winder Barrow High School showcases achievements and new initiatives at board meeting

The Barrow County School System celebrated student achievements and community spirit during the BCSS Board Meeting on April 1, 2025. Superintendent Dr. Leduc opened the meeting with heartfelt recognitions, praising the dedication of staff and families who support student education. "We couldn't be more proud of them," he stated, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in shaping student success.

The spotlight turned to Winder Barrow High School, where Principal Rebbe Litchlider showcased the school's vibrant culture. "Our school is more than just a building. It is a community filled with passion, dedication, and a relentless commitment to student success," she said. Litchlider introduced three standout individuals: graduation specialist Allison Kramer, student council president Molly Huff, and beloved teacher Eli Owens, each embodying the school's spirit and commitment to excellence.

Kramer highlighted the launch of a new Freshman Academy aimed at easing the transition from middle to high school, a move expected to significantly reduce dropout rates. "Providing this extra layer of support is going to be a game changer," she noted, underscoring the initiative's potential impact on student achievement.

The meeting also featured impressive student-led presentations, including videos showcasing the school's achievements in academics, arts, and athletics. The introduction of esports and the success of various sports teams were celebrated, with the boys' basketball team reaching the elite eight in the state tournament.

As the meeting concluded, Litchlider expressed gratitude for the board's support, stating, "Because of your resources, we have been able to offer courses that truly align with our students' interests and aspirations." The commitment to fostering a nurturing educational environment was clear, with plans for new course offerings and continued community engagement on the horizon.
