Barrow County Schools honor staff and kick off kindergarten registration campaign

The BCSS Board Meeting held on April 1, 2025, commenced with a warm welcome from Chair Lehi, who expressed gratitude for the attendance of community members, students, and staff. The meeting began with an invocation led by Ms. Maddox, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a presentation of colors.

Following the opening, the board moved to approve the minutes from the previous meetings on March 4 and March 25, 2025. The motion for approval was made by Ms. Calabay and seconded, receiving unanimous support. The agenda for the evening was also approved without opposition.

The meeting proceeded to the consent items discussed in the prior work session, which were similarly approved after a motion by Ms. Hendricks and a second from Dr. Carey.

Superintendent Dr. LaDuff then highlighted the recent St. Clean and Safe Schools visit, commending the custodial staff for maintaining clean and safe environments at CFIT, Austin Road Elementary, and Bethlehem Elementary, with no safety concerns reported.

The recognitions segment of the meeting featured several commendations. Mr. Joe Purno recognized Maria Dolores Najera, a custodian at Holsenbeck Elementary School, for her dedication and positive impact on the school environment. Her consistent efforts were praised for ensuring a clean and welcoming space for students and staff.

Dr. James followed with a recognition of student actors who contributed to the kindergarten registration campaign. He emphasized the importance of early registration for incoming kindergarten students, encouraging families to register before July to ensure a smooth start to the school year on August 1.

The meeting concluded with a reminder for families to register their children for kindergarten and a note of thanks to Semmes Academy for their assistance in creating awards for the students.
