Construction teams are preparing to install steel plates to infill the second and third floors, while most walls across all four floors have been framed. The third floor will feature a staff area, and the basement is currently the furthest along in the renovation, with sheetrock being installed in various rooms.
Key features of the renovation include a new multi-purpose room, a makerspace, podcast rooms, and study areas. The construction also involves the installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with a fire suppression system, which had not been present before.
A notable design element will be a geometric pattern on the walls and ceiling near the public elevators, intended to help visitors easily identify their floor. Each floor will be assigned a distinct color, with green designated for the basement.
The first floor will also see the addition of a new story time room, complete with a puppet stage. Plans for a mid-century modern mural, celebrating the building's 1960s heritage, are underway in collaboration with local artist Charles Claude and the city's communications department.
Overall, the meeting underscored the city's commitment to enhancing public spaces and fostering community engagement through art and design. Further updates on the renovation are expected as the project progresses.
