Miss Macy Schmidt qualifies for national Economics Olympiad competition

During the Lenoir County Public Schools April Regular Board Meeting, significant achievements by local students were highlighted, showcasing the district's commitment to academic excellence and real-world learning opportunities.

One of the standout moments was the recognition of Macy Schmidt, a sophomore at Early College High School, who has advanced to the national round of The United States Economics Olympiad. Outperforming hundreds of students nationwide, Schmidt will compete against 60 top students from 14 states for a chance to represent the United States at the International Economics Olympiad in Greece this fall. Her success not only reflects her hard work but also the quality of education provided by her economics teacher, Dr. T, who she credited for her preparation.

Additionally, another Early College student, Nubia Alejo Vasquez, received commendation for securing a position in the North Carolina Business Committee for Education's seed program. This program offers a unique blend of classroom instruction and hands-on experience in industrial systems and agricultural science, allowing students to learn while earning a paycheck.
