CISPRI advocates for new harbor infrastructure to enhance spill response in Kenai

In the heart of Kenai, Alaska, a call for improved harbor infrastructure echoed through the city hall during the recent Harbor Commission meeting. The discussion, led by a representative from CISPRI, a cooperative oil spill removal organization, highlighted the pressing need for a dedicated harbor facility to enhance safety and environmental protection in the region.

Currently, the city’s fuel dock poses significant risks, particularly in the event of a spill. The representative recalled a previous recommendation made to the city manager, suggesting that the best way to mitigate spill risks was to cease fuel sales at the existing facility. “If you lose fuel there in the river, it’s a bad situation,” he stated, underscoring the urgency of the matter.
