The Aurora East USD 131 Board of Education meeting on April 7, 2025, highlighted several key initiatives aimed at enhancing student engagement and community involvement. A standout announcement was the launch of "Town Cat News," a student-led broadcast produced by the broadcasting class at the Resilience Education Center. This initiative empowers students to take charge of the entire production process, from filming to editing, showcasing their media skills and creativity.
In addition to the broadcast, the meeting addressed the results of the recent 5 Essential Survey, which garnered responses from 91% of teachers, 88% of students, and over 20% of parents. This high level of participation allows the district to gain valuable insights into community feedback, which will be reviewed on the official website to inform future improvements.

In collaboration with student ambassadors, the district plans to create a safe space during lunch for students, particularly newcomers, to foster friendships and support networks. This initiative aims to help students adjust to the school environment and build a sense of belonging, with hopes to launch it by the end of the school year.
Athletics were also celebrated, particularly the girls' soccer team, which has had a strong start to the spring season with six consecutive wins, including impressive victories against Rosary and Ridgewood.
The meeting concluded with a student recognition segment, honoring Jeremy Perez for his academic and extracurricular achievements, including earning the Seal of Biliteracy and breaking the indoor 1,600-meter school record.
Overall, the meeting underscored the district's commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging educational environment, with initiatives that prioritize student voice, well-being, and community involvement.
