Cottonwood Heights approves Tavace annexation to consolidate 96 acres into city

In a recent Salt Lake County Council meeting, officials approved a significant annexation that will bring 96 acres of land into Cottonwood Heights, a move aimed at consolidating local governance and addressing community needs. The annexation, known as the Tavace annexation, was presented by Lisa Hartman, the county's associate deputy mayor, and received unanimous support from council members.

The annexation includes a mix of residential and undeveloped land, with the primary goal of keeping all properties owned by Walker Development, LLC within a single municipality. This decision is particularly relevant as it seeks to streamline governance and planning for future developments in the area. The land in question has a zoning designation that currently limits development due to its steep terrain, but officials anticipate that a few residential lots may eventually be developed.

One notable aspect of the annexation is the inclusion of a peninsula that provides access to a Salt Lake City Public Utilities water tank. While the utility company expressed neutrality regarding the annexation, they emphasized the importance of maintaining access to their facilities. This highlights the careful consideration given to existing infrastructure and community resources during the annexation process.

The Cottonwood Heights City Council had previously approved the annexation in February, and the county council's swift action is part of a timeline to submit the necessary documentation to the Lieutenant Governor's office by April 19, ensuring the annexation becomes official by July 1.
