Tampa updates comprehensive plan for 2045 with community input and expert guidance

In a recent public hearing held by the Hillsborough County Planning Commission, community leaders and residents gathered to discuss the future of Tampa's comprehensive plan, known as "Live, Grow, Thrive 2045." The meeting, which took place on April 8, 2025, highlighted the ongoing efforts to update the future land use section of the plan, a significant undertaking that has not seen a comprehensive review since its inception in 1989.

As the meeting commenced, a project team member emphasized the iterative nature of the planning process, thanking both city staff and community members for their invaluable input over the past few years. The team has engaged in multiple rounds of drafts, ensuring that the voices of Tampa's residents are heard and integrated into the planning framework.

With Tampa's population projected to grow by over 74,000 residents and add approximately 13,000 new jobs by 2045, the urgency of the discussion was palpable. The community's overarching themes emerged clearly: a desire to prioritize growth in appropriate areas, maintain the character of neighborhoods, enhance coastal resilience, and ensure sustainability.
