April 2025 has been officially designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Prince William County, with the Board of County Supervisors emphasizing the urgent need to protect children from abuse and neglect. During the meeting, officials highlighted the alarming statistic that nearly 2,500 cases of suspected child abuse and neglect were reported in the county in fiscal year 2024.
Phyllis Jennings Holt, Director of Social Services, accepted the proclamation on behalf of her department, underscoring the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for all children. "Each child deserves to grow up feeling safe, supported, and loved," she stated, as she introduced members of the Child Advocacy Center and other community partners dedicated to this cause. The color blue was chosen to symbolize hope and healing, with a call for community members to wear blue every Friday in April to raise awareness.
