Henrico County declares April 20-26 as Volunteer Week honoring community service

Henrico County's Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed April 20 through April 26, 2025, as National Volunteer Week, honoring the invaluable contributions of local volunteers. Chair Dan Schmidt presented the proclamation to Victoria Davis, the community engagement and volunteer coordinator, highlighting the critical role volunteers play in enhancing community life.

During the meeting, Schmidt emphasized the extensive volunteer efforts throughout Henrico, stating, "There are folks volunteering their time across all aspects of our lives." The proclamation recognizes the county's long-standing commitment to volunteerism, which has been active since 1984, and acknowledges the expansion of opportunities for civic engagement.

Davis accepted the proclamation on behalf of Henrico's volunteers, noting that in 2024 alone, volunteers contributed over 35,831 hours of service, equating to a value of approximately half a million dollars. Their efforts included tree planting, park beautification, and support for local libraries and community members in need.

The county also encourages volunteerism among its employees, providing eight hours of volunteer leave, which has been utilized for various community projects. Davis expressed gratitude to the Board for their ongoing support, stating, "We as volunteers are the heartbeat strengthening our organization."

This proclamation not only celebrates the dedication of volunteers but also reinforces Henrico County's commitment to fostering a culture of service and community engagement.
