Jersey City officials are taking significant steps to address transportation infrastructure, with two key resolutions gaining momentum at the recent Municipal Caucus Meeting on April 7, 2025. The first resolution, 25-255, supports the New Jersey Department of Transportation's (NJDOT) concept development study for the replacement of the JFK Boulevard Bridge over Route 139. Concerns were raised about the proposed construction staging, which is not set to begin until late 2027 or 2028. City officials emphasized the need to maintain two eastbound travel lanes during construction to mitigate traffic impacts.
The second resolution, 25-256, also seeks support for the replacement of the Baldwin Avenue Bridge, which was damaged after being struck by a train. This project is similarly slated for construction in 2028-2029. City officials expressed frustration over delays in communication from the Port Authority and the railroad, urging for quicker resolutions to alleviate ongoing traffic issues affecting residents.

This plan aims to update the circulation element of the city's master plan, which has not been revised since 2011. The initiative will include public engagement and data-driven analysis to enhance transportation policies and improve mobility across the city.
As Jersey City continues to grow, these resolutions reflect a proactive approach to addressing transportation challenges and ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with community needs. The anticipated outcomes of these projects could significantly improve traffic flow and safety for residents in the coming years.
