Mayor Pavoni proclaims April 2025 as Arbor Day Earth Day and National Volunteer Month in Renton

In a ceremonial proclamation, Mayor Armando Pavoni declared April 26, 2025, as Arbor Day Earth Day in Renton. This recognition celebrates the city's designation as a Tree City USA since 2008 and emphasizes the vital role trees play in enhancing urban life. The proclamation encourages residents to participate in a tree planting event at Highland Park, where volunteers from local schools and organizations will contribute to the restoration of Renton's urban forest. Ian Gray, the city's Urban Forestry and Natural Resource Manager, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event and presented council members with handmade coasters crafted from dogwood rounds, symbolizing the city's dedication to its green spaces.

The council also proclaimed April 2025 as National Volunteer Month, acknowledging the significant contributions of volunteers across various sectors in Renton. Mayor Pavoni highlighted the essential role that volunteers play in enriching community life, from civic engagement to environmental efforts. Trisha Nishi, the city’s Volunteer Coordinator, along with several dedicated volunteers, shared their gratitude for the 650 individuals who support city programs and initiatives. Nishi noted that the city will celebrate these volunteers later in the month with an appreciation event at the Don Person Senior Activity Center.
