Speedway School Board approves personnel report including new principal appointment

The Speedway School Board meeting on April 8, 2025, focused on key personnel changes and the acknowledgment of significant grant funding.

The board recognized the receipt of $222,537.21 in grants, highlighting the financial support for local educational initiatives. This funding is expected to enhance resources and programs within the district.

In the personnel report, several staff changes were announced. David Hunter, a custodian, was dismissed on April 4. Notable resignations included Nathan Day, assistant principal at Speedway High School; James Sims, head wrestling coach at Speedway Junior High; Kendra Lucky, girls' assistant golf coach at Speedway High School and head golf coach at Speedway Junior High; Alicia Goss, a cafeteria worker; and Ken Allison, a school nurse with 11 years of service.

The board recommended Heather Gorgas as the new principal of Newby Elementary School and Timothy Woodlock as the assistant baseball coach at Speedway Junior High. The personnel report was approved unanimously by the board.
