Green Bay Planning Commission approves expanded rummage sales ordinance for local residents

City staff recommended approval, highlighting that the billboard would adhere to regulations regarding its proximity to intersections and would not obstruct traffic or pedestrian access. The proposal aims to enhance visibility for local businesses while ensuring safety measures are in place, such as a 24/7 contact for any hazardous situations related to the sign. The commission voted unanimously in favor, sending the proposal to the city council for further consideration on April 15.

Another key topic was the amendment to the Green Bay municipal code concerning rummage sales. Currently limited to three events per year, lasting no more than nine days total, the proposed change would allow residents to hold four events, each lasting up to four days. Alderperson Profit, who initiated the request, emphasized the need for flexibility to accommodate community needs, particularly for elderly residents managing their sales. The commission recognized the potential for increased neighborhood engagement and voted to support the amendment, which will also be reviewed by the city council.
