Public comment took center stage at the recent Plan Commission meeting in Verona, where the spotlight was on the revised proposal for Sugar Creek Commons Phase 3. Connor Net, representing the project applicant, presented an updated mixed-use development plan aimed at revitalizing West Verona Avenue.
The new proposal comes after a previous application was denied at the January 13 Common Council meeting. This time, the plan includes 4,200 square feet of commercial space along West Verona Avenue, two live-work units with an additional 1,300 square feet of commercial space, and 14 multifamily units. The design closely mirrors the successful Sugar Creek Commons buildings B and C, which were completed in 2022 and currently house several businesses, including the Bogey Factory.
A key feature of the new concept is a drive-thru lane for a potential ATM, which has garnered interest from financial institutions looking to establish a presence in the area. Net expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its importance for the community and its potential to break ground this fall.
As the commission considers this proposal, the community eagerly awaits the next steps in bringing this mixed-use development to fruition.
