Mayor Langanese proclaims KZMU Community Radio Day and International Dark Sky Week in Moab

The Moab City Council meeting on April 8, 2025, highlighted two significant proclamations aimed at enhancing community engagement and environmental awareness. Mayor Joette Langanese announced the designation of April 28 as International Dark Sky Week and April 26 as Arbor Day, both aimed at promoting the city's natural resources and community spirit.

International Dark Sky Week will encourage residents to appreciate the beauty of Moab's night skies while raising awareness about light pollution's impact on health and ecology. The proclamation emphasizes Moab's commitment to preserving its dark skies, a status it achieved in 2024, and invites residents to participate by turning off lights and stargazing.

Arbor Day, celebrated on April 26, recognizes Moab's long-standing commitment to urban forestry, having held the Tree City USA designation since 1993. The proclamation highlights the importance of trees in enhancing community aesthetics, supporting local wildlife, and improving air quality. Mayor Langanese urged residents to celebrate by planting trees and enjoying the benefits they provide.

In addition to these proclamations, the council approved the minutes from the previous meeting and bills totaling $662,276.43. The meeting also included a public hearing on an ordinance to amend the sanitary sewer impact fee schedule, which is set to be adopted in the coming weeks.
