North Platte food pantries receive $260,000 in funding for essential supplies

In a recent Lincoln County Commissioners meeting, the allocation of funds to local food pantries and community organizations took center stage, highlighting the county's commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting essential services. The meeting, held on April 7, 2025, revealed that out of 18 applicants, 14 were awarded funding, with a total of $300,000 distributed to various organizations.

The North Platte Catholic Community Food Pantry was among the first to receive support, securing the full $10,000 requested. This funding was quickly utilized to stock their shelves with vital food supplies, including canned goods and perishables, leaving them with no remaining funds. Similarly, the Salvation Army received $50,000, which was also fully expended on food items for their pantry.

Other notable recipients included Grace Ministries Food Pantry, which received $14,151.20, and Hope's Cupboards Food Pantry, funded for $8,000. Both organizations reported that their funds were entirely spent on food supplies. The Episcopal Church of Our Savior was granted $20,000 to enhance their facilities and services, while Deborah's Legacy received $40,100 for food and building renovations.

Despite the positive outcomes for many, some applicants, such as the First Church of Nazarene and Gracious Arms Ministry, were not funded. The North Platte Senior Center received $20,000 of their requested $40,000, which was directed towards meal programs for seniors.

The meeting concluded with the announcement that all allocated funds had been fully utilized, a testament to the pressing need for food assistance in the community. As the county continues to address these challenges, the successful distribution of funds reflects a collaborative effort to support those in need and ensure that local organizations can continue their vital work.
